LINKS FOR HER PROJECT

We have reached 5000+ women

The Links For Her Project is increasing access to self-injectable contraceptives, specifically DMPA-SC, for women in peri-urban areas of Mukono, Uganda, by engaging the private sector.

How we do it

The project is addressing significant barriers to contraceptive access, including stock-outs in public facilities, unreliable private sector supplies, and inadequate client counseling.

The project establishes stable supply chains and engages stakeholders, including private providers in clinics, pharmacies and drug shops, ensuring they are equipped to distribute and educate women on self-injection. Providers in high-volume private outlets undergo comprehensive training and continue to receive ongoing mentorship to maintain their skills. Community demand is generated through targeted communication campaigns and the involvement of local champions educating about DMPA-SC.

With sustainability at its core, the project is supporting providers while documenting learnings to guide the expansion to additional outlets. Links For Her is on track to reach its target of 100,000 women over five years, significantly contributing to reducing unintended pregnancies and improving family well-being.

Self-injectable contraceptives enhance reproductive autonomy

Unlike traditional methods that often require repeated visits to health facilities, self-injection allows users to administer contraception privately, conveniently, and on their own schedule. This not only minimizes dependency on healthcare providers but also reduces barriers such as time constraints, transportation challenges, and stigmatization often faced in accessing reproductive health services.
