About us

Who we are

We are a team of passionate change-makers at Madaraja, committed to empowering communities through education, support, and advocacy to improve reproductive health and create better futures for women and children.

Madaraja Foundation is a Non-Profit and Non-Governmental Organization established in June 2022 with a mission to enhance women’s and girls’ access to quality health information and care in Mukono, Kayunga, and surrounding districts. The name “Madaraja,” meaning “bridges” in Kiswahili, reflects our commitment to creating vital connections that bridge gaps in healthcare for vulnerable women and girls. Through our work, we strive to improve their Sexual and Reproductive Health, overall well-being, and empower them to actively participate in income-generating activities.

We are focused on building these bridges, supporting communities, and driving lasting improvements in the lives of women and girls.

Our approach

Our Mission
Our mission is to to enhance the health and wellbeing of women and girls by increasing access to quality sexual reproductive health information and care.

We are dedicated to empowering women and girls by breaking down barriers to healthcare, raising awareness, and providing the support needed to make informed decisions about their health. Through our initiatives, we aim to create a healthier, more empowered generation of women and girls who are equipped to lead fulfilling lives and contribute to their communities.

Our Vision
We want to build a world where all women and girls can make informed decisions about their sexual reproductive health and have equitable access to comprehensive health information and care.

Our team envisions a future where women and girls have equitable access to comprehensive health information and care, enabling them to lead healthier lives. Furthermore, we are committed to creating opportunities that allow women and girls to actively participate in income-generating activities, ensuring they have the financial independence and confidence to shape their own futures.

Our Projects

We currently work with women and girls in Central Uganda

Links For Her Project

The Links For Her Project aims to increase access to self-injectable contraceptives, DMPA-SC, for women in peri-urban areas of Uganda by engaging and supporting providers in the private sector. This is achieved through comprehensive provider training, establishing reliable supply chain linkages, and engaging the community to raise awareness while addressing myths and misconceptions.

CARE Groups Project

The CARE Groups Project empowers teenage mothers in Uganda by providing a holistic support system that integrates sexual and reproductive health education, mental health support, and economic empowerment. Through peer-led CARE groups, teenage mothers receive essential knowledge on family planning, prenatal and postnatal care, and financial literacy, alongside access to psychosocial support and income-generating opportunities.
